The judge of the art exhibition - Mr. Jacky Lee

Jacky Lee is a distinguished visual artist and professional photographer with over two decades of experience, specialising in landscape, nightscape, architectural and aerial drone photography. With a background as a Chartered Building Engineer and Surveyor, he combines technical expertise with creative vision to capture striking perspectives of both natural and urban environments.

His journey into photography began in childhood. At the end of Year 6 in Hong Kong, classmates invited him to the annual flower show at Victoria Park. Borrowing his father’s compact film camera, Jacky was fascinated when one photograph mysteriously showed a missing river stream — a puzzle that sparked his curiosity. By Year 7, the dazzling cover of Newton Astronomical Magazine inspired him to explore astronomy and dream of capturing such images with a camera. In Year 10, thanks to a film camera gifted by his parents, he discovered the principle of “what you see is what you get” and finally solved the earlier mystery: parallax error between the viewfinder and lens. From experimenting in the darkroom to years of self-directed learning, Jacky’s path reflects how curiosity, problem-solving and persistence can grow into a lifelong artistic pursuit.

Over his career, Jacky has received more than 100 awards and recognitions across colour, black-and-white and mobile photography. His works have been exhibited in over 15 countries, featured in local and international media, and published in photography books that explore both technical practice and the therapeutic value of the art form. He uses photography not only as a medium of artistic expression but also as a way to foster appreciation of beauty, mindfulness, mutual respect and cultural connection as pathways to inner and collective peace.

Beyond his creative practice, Jacky is deeply involved in the photographic community. He serves in national-level photography societies in Australia, Canada, the UK and the USA, contributes as a museum advisor and has been invited to judge national and international competitions for several years. He also shares his knowledge as a university guest speaker, workshop instructor and photo tour leader.

Through his art, education and leadership, Jacky Lee continues to bridge creativity, cultural exchange and community, inspiring audiences around the world.
